i do too. you don't hear much reference at all to him later on in any of the other books and after reading Brisingr, i doubt he had anything to do with the Varden.

Yes, it seems very unlikely. Believe it or not, he may just be a CHARACTER who dies and has no other role.

He was significant to Eragon, but that does not mean Garrow has a role in the last book. He has yet to be mentioned and I doubt he had anything to do with the Varden. Yes, the blessing he gives to Eragon is quite mysterious, but it does not give me any reason to suspect that Garrow knew much about magic, much less the Varden.
