I think at last minute he and Thorn will change their true name and help Eragon ad Saphira kill Galby but get mortally wounded in the process. Then there will be a bitter scene where Eragon is kneeling next to Mrutagh while he's dying and all that stuff.

Eragon was the best because he couldn't slaughter everyone with a word. That added a challenge to the plot.
