It's obvious. He wants to emotionally destabalize Eragon. I mean, look at Star Wars. Darth Vader tells Luke the he's Lukes father so that he'll turn to the Dark Side easier! It's the same thing in Eragon! Galby doesn't really want to kill Eragon, he wants him for an ally!
